how does a speed camera know which car is speeding on double lanes?

If there is a car going below the speed limit in one lane and a car speeds past in the other lane and the speed camera flashes. Then how does the camera know which car was speeding?
I was travelling in the left lane and the car went past in the right lane and was speeding. The camera flashed and I don’t want the blame!
UK ROAD

The operator will check the speed by measuring the lines on the road and the distance both cars have travelled from the photos.
The one going faster will have passed more lines and thus will be the one which gets the NIP.

Those who say they only cover only one lane are just plain WRONG.

Speed cameras are normally aimed at one lane.

It cant, speed cameras can only track one lane. They try too fool you by putting the lines on both lanes but really they can only do one side.

Maybe they take multiple pics and determine it that way

it doesn’t…but what it does do is take 2 pics..when they are viewed the faster car will be further along the lines..they use this lines to extrapolate the speed.

The camera takes 2 pictures, one after the other, and the distance the cars have travelled can be worked out from the lines on the road.
So if you’re doing less than the speed limit, you won’t have passed as many lines as the other car – only the one that is speeding will get a ticket.

The ‘beam’ is set to cover both lanes and the white markings on the road will decide which vehicle is speeding. To those who think covering both lanes is a myth, try it!
