SPEEDING??????????????????
Just curious… How fast can you go over the speed limit without a cop coming after you???
Just wondering. I do go the speed limit, but I’m just curious what people can get away with…
Thank you!
Well would an officer bother with a person going 1 mph over?
And what if you were doing 5 over, but the person in the left lane was doing 7-10 over? Would they look past you and go for them?
Thanks again!
it is officer discretion but speaking for my self if it is just speeding i will pull over if the vehicle is going five mph over the speed limit write a citation (ticket) if the speed is over 10 mph unless it is in a school zone then anyone going over 20 mph will be stopped and written a citation. but there are situations where the maximum speed limit is not safe to travel at and a police officer can write you a citation for speeding so its better to be safe than sorry.

Typically they will go after you when you are going about 7 or over, but once you go one mile over the speed limit you can be stopped and ticketed.

It depends. On the freeway, 5-7 miles over. On surface streets, 2-3. In my experience.

American tradition says that 10 MPH over the speed limit will get you stopped. But that’s tradition. The law is that even 1 MPH over the limit can get you stopped.

That is usually a matter of officer discretion, so your answer will vary quite a bit.
Keep in mind the speed limit is the maximum speed under ideal conditions. Factors the officer can consider include traffic density, pedestrians in the area, road construction, darkness, weather, your prior driving record, etc.
Going 10 over on a clear day may keep you out of trouble, but going 10 over and weaving in and out of traffic on a rainy day will get an officer’s attention.
The speed limit may also be a deciding factor. 10 over on a freeway may be safe, but 10 over in a 15mph zone is almost twice the limit.

Depends on the cop, weather, and how busy the city is with serious crimes.

most will give you 5 mph on the highway or in rural areas
in town they might give you 2 -3
but they can even pull you over even if your 1 mph over anywhere
